How TotaLite measures movement

How TotaLite measures movement

A camera-based sensor watches retroreflective targets and turns that into site millimetric displacement figures, continuously. This page explains how the parts fit together.

From target to decision

From target to decision

One measurement loop runs day and night. Light returns from each target, the sensor resolves it to a position, and the platform turns positions into displacement, charts and alerts.

This loop repeats on the interval you set; no site visits required.

The Principle

Millimetres, from pixels

Millimetres, from pixels

Totalite is a non-invasive optical instrument; it photographs it, and measures how the targets move within the frame.

Capture

Infrared illumination lights up every retroreflective target in view. The sensor captures the scene on the interval you choose, day and night.

Resolve

Image processing locates the centre of each target to a fraction of a pixel. At the calibrated distance, that fraction is a known number of millimetres.

Compare

Every position is compared against the baseline. Displacement in 2D is charted per target, and crossing a threshold you set sends an alert.

The result: 1 mm accuracy at 40 m, with no cabling to the structure and nothing powered on the target side.

Hardware

Built for independence

Built for independence

The sensor is designed for places you would rather not revisit: tunnels, embankments, live construction sites. Set it up once for continuous measurements.

In Context

Alongside the total station

Alongside the total station

TotalLite is not a replacement for every survey instrument. It takes over the repetitive part: watching known points, continuously, in places that are costly to revisit.
